An evening’s ride

Wednesday evening, Jan and I joined the ride out of Fellowship Bible Church located out toward Rogersville.  There has been a small discussion in the cycling community regarding using the church lot to launch from on Wednesday evenings.  What if we caused unneccesary problems for the church and their members for their evening service and activites?  Were we being good representatives of the cycling community in using their parking lot?  What were our responsibilites and privileges?

These questions and concerns were all put to rest when Sheryl, our ride leader, got gracious confirmation this week from the church that we could indeed use their lot to launch from.  A heart felt Thanks to Fellowship Bible Church for allowing us to use their location on these Wednesday evenings!

When we arrived at the church we saw about fifteen to twenty other riders ready to go.

We had two trainers from the Meyer Center.  Sheryl took one group to R-ville and Vic took the other group to Ozark.

We crossed over Hwy 60 and headed east on County Line Rd

Going south on Finbrooke, we made our way to County Road U

At Elm Grove Road and U, Jan related her experience with Sheryl on their first ride together.  Let us say that it was a character-building event!

While some are getting their first cut of hay, this crop is just starting

This old Thunderbird passed us by as we waiting to cross Hwy 60

The overall temps were on the warm side, but the constant cloud cover made the time pleasant.  We had no mishaps and the group reformed every so often when crossing a major highway.  The conversation was real good and we appreciated Sheryl’s efforts at making sure everyone was ok.  We had not done the Wednesday evening ride for a couple of years because of family obligations.  Things have now changed and we will be joining our friends on a more consistent basis.  Here’s to more summer riding!

Stay happy,

About rlhoover

A perspective on life and cycling in the Ozarks. I started serious cycling in 2008, after seeing my wife be on the bike for a few years. We have biked many places and hope to continue. I am no where near being a real good cyclist, but I have fun trying to improve. Who am I kidding? Me? Improve??
