Rogersville Ride

Brandon came with his new Giant Defy

Wednesday night we once more joined the cycling group from Cox Health Care/Meyer Center as it launched from Fellowship Bible Church.

This is a good group of people to ride with.  The riders split off into two groups that follow somewhat different routes.  Jan and I decided to go with the same group from the previous week.

Crossing Hwy 60 was easy and we soon found ourselves turning onto Finbrooke from FR 194.

This time we took Finbrooke all the way south to County Rd. U

On Finbrooke, one rider’s tire was in need of help. Some stayed to help and others proceeded on.

The traffic along County Road U was not heavy at all.  We passed by a fellow doing barbeque on his driveway.  We discussed amongst ourselves the option of stopping and becoming aquainted with him.  But, we went on instead.

This field has started to ripen up as opposed to the light green color of last week.

I do not know the identity of this flower and I also regret not getting a picture of the Indian Paintbrush that occasionally grew by the roadside.

We arrived at Rogersville and took a break at Hardy’s.  While coming into town we met our other compatriots on the way out.  As we left Hardy’s we voiced our expectation to join up with those we had left on Finbrooke who stayed to help fix Chris’ leaking tube.

Our small peleton regrouped at Center Point Church and it was here that the others joined us.  We had stopped to refill bottles from an outdoor spigot on the church grounds and Duke took a breather on one of the picnic benches.

I present the following picture in an effort to be journalistically honest!

Stay happy,

About rlhoover

A perspective on life and cycling in the Ozarks. I started serious cycling in 2008, after seeing my wife be on the bike for a few years. We have biked many places and hope to continue. I am no where near being a real good cyclist, but I have fun trying to improve. Who am I kidding? Me? Improve??

Another Springfield friend sent me the KYTV documentary on Route 66. Why not document a ride along that historic road through Springfield?

That is an idea that has not occurred to me. I am not a real fan of the old road. I have made mention of it in some of these posts but I will leave a more elaborate presentation to the Lovers and Drivers of Old Cars. Thanks.

It’s always fun to ride with friends, and it looks like you had a great ride!

Bill, thanks for the info. We happened to ride this a.m. and saw some Indian Paintbrush, but it was too far from the road to get a good picture. I shall continue to keep my eyes open for more specimens of roadside flora.

  3. Glad you had a good ride. Still looking for a chance to hook up and ride with you guys!

Same here, Tracy! Looks like you and Pam had good climbs like we did! Groan! Jan turned to me during services yesterday morning and told me that she had just realized that the 50 we did the day before was the farthest she had done in two years. No wonder it was a bit tough.
