More wildlife

A couple of weeks ago I saw a deer bounding through our neighborhood as I biked to work in the morning dark.  In my previous post, I mentioned the skunk I had seen on a recent morning commute.  He had reacted to my voice with raised tail and alert eyes.  That was fun, only because I was far enough away from it.

Sunday afternoon, after Jan and I had gotten in an extensive local ride, I saw this in our backyard, eating an early dinner.  Our third wildlife sighting.

We have an Audubon Bird book, but have been unable to identify this hawk

With binoculars I was able to get a clearer view.  Its legs were yellow as were its eyes and the small spot just above the beak.  It was feasting on some small game it had caught. Later on, this hawk was gone and when I went outside to view the remains, I could not find any evidence at all of the kill.  The hawk had taken the carcass elsewhere.  Jan and I surmised that since our (outdoor) cat is gone, we might see more sights like this in the future.

Stay happy,

About rlhoover

A perspective on life and cycling in the Ozarks. I started serious cycling in 2008, after seeing my wife be on the bike for a few years. We have biked many places and hope to continue. I am no where near being a real good cyclist, but I have fun trying to improve. Who am I kidding? Me? Improve??
